Coupe vs. Sedan: What’s the Difference?

Many Sauk Rapids drivers think the answer to this question is as simple as coupes having two doors and sedans having four.

While this is true, it isn’t the only distinction between a coupe and sedan. Learn more about the coupe vs. sedan differences at Eich Mazda today and drive home in your favorite.

Difference Between Coupe and Sedan

  • Door Count: The most immediate difference between the coupe vs. sedan is the door count. Coupes come with two doors and sedans come with four doors.
  • Exterior Style: In addition to the door counts, some other sedan vs. coupe style cues include the shorter stature of the coupe meaning longer doors and longer rear windows giving these models a sportier look. Sedans tend to focus on the luxuries in styling with shorter doors to provide a more balanced side profile.
  • Performance: Since the coupe is smaller, it also gets a sportier performance thanks to the decreased size and weight. Sedans often need larger engine options and suspension upgrades as they need to accommodate for the more weight and greater size of the vehicle itself.
  • Interior Size: Sedans typically offer seating for five with ample head and leg room, and they have more space for rear passengers than coupes. In coupes, the space available for rear passengers is typically more limited, can usually only seat two reasonably.
  • Cargo Space: Because of the longer design, sedans offer more cargo space. If cargo space is a must in your new vehicle, a coupe may not be the way to go.

Sedan vs. Coupe: Which is for Me?

Sedans like the Mazda3 are a better fit for a larger family, frequent passengers, and additional cargo space. If you prefer sportier handling, and if having extra cargo space isn’t a concern, then a Mazda coupe may be the vehicle for you and your Saint Joseph commutes. Make sure you explore the interior features of both to make sure you get all you need and more.
